So far, So good
January proved to be a five star month. Most of my choices became memorable reads, whetting my appetite to search out more good great reads for my 2026 Good Reads reading challenge. I almost hit my wishful thinking number of 200 books last year. January’s five star reads:
The Book of Lost Hours by Hayley Gelfuso

The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion (4 out of 8 read and now waiting patiently for the others to get returned)

Time and Again by Jack Finney

The Song of Hartgrove Hall by Natasha Solomon’s

How is your reading challenge coming along?

Time and Again! Great choice
I did enjoy that one in particular.
You’ve given me incentive to pick up a book and read! We’ve moved to a delightful house in a delightful community called Kingston, PA. The house seems made for me: there’s a box on the property there for the purpose of sharing books with others! I’m looking forward to relaxing on the patio with a good book when the weather warms up.
I’m reading more books due to wintry days of gray! Sunny days on a patio and I tend to nap 😊
Recently finished a good one (Culpability—an Oprah book Club book). There were many interesting subplots, but the main plot centered around AI technology. The seventeen-year-old son is “driving” a self-driving car that kills another couple. The problem is that he was texting on his phone at the time. His mom had a hand in the technology, and his father was so engrossed in his work on the laptop that he wasn’t paying attention to his son.
Sounds engrossing and quite timely.
I’ve started George Saunders’ new book, Vigil. Went to a talk for his book launch. He’s certainly unassuming and personable. In this new book he writes from an interesting perspective and keeps me reading because I want to know where it’s headed. But I’m not sure I’m as enamored of it as some seem to be. We’ll see how it plays out.
Reviews are mixed, with thoughts it’s a modern Christmas Carol. After reading Fox 8 I’m okay with not rushing out to add this to my TBR.
Love Jack Finney’s books!
Great choice of books! I’m currently reading The Secret of Chimneys, it’s one of Christie’s earlier works and I am quiet enjoying it….even though I love anything and everything by her.
Reading her books has been spoiled by watching too adaptations!
Ironically I haven’t seen any of the adaptions lol…. even though every now and then I come across inspired tv series. The who dun it style mystery in a big mansion just feels cozy on a Sunday morning with coffee 😄
The David Suchet portrayal of Poirot are the best!
