September is Library Card Drive
You do have a library card, right? I actually have around four: local, adjacent community, university, and former–I just might visit there someday. I have more library cards than credit cards, and I’m glad of that.
September is back to school and it makes sense to also designate the month as Library Card Month. As students get into the routine of going back to school, getting them into the routine of going to the library is just as important as having sharpened pencils and a dependable pen.
To twist an old selling point: “The Library Card. Don’t leave home without it.”

There was a wonderful article in the CDA Press about the power of libraries in today’s e-world. I have a library card, or two, or three ….
Even though I’m out of school, I love my library. Getting a library card when I move to a new city is always one of the first things on my to-do list. The library is only one block from my current house…one of the best things about this place 🙂
I always check out the library when looking at neighborhoods if moving. I can live without a movie theater but gotta have a library.
I go to the library at least once a week and usually twice. I would NEVER leave home without my library card! I hope lots of families add a library card to wallet this year. 🙂

At our school, during each class’s library time this week, we passed out applications for library card to those who don’t have their own. In two weeks, we’ll take a field trip for kids to pick out their own cards and learn how to research books at the SF Public Library. We’re also teaching them how to research books online through the public library. I love how we can order books from around the country via the public library (and university) systems!

I LOVE my library card, LOVE my library (and pretty much ALL of them!) and just this past week convinced someone I met in a bookstore to get his library card 😀
Oh, yeah–get carded at the bookstore, that’s what it’s all about!
LOL… yeah, well, the bookstore doesn’t carry the books I was telling him about: nonfiction graphic novels 😀 hehehe
Beowulf as a graphic novel proved fairly epic 😀
That’s the kind of stuff he normally reads ’cause it’s what’s in the book stores, but this past weekend I found out the library has lots of nonfiction GNs. I had no idea about this! Truth be told, the first graphic novel I read was this past spring: STITCHES by David Small. I actually had the pleasure of meeting him and getting him to sign my copy on Sunday which was why I got into a little conversation with the librarians (he and Hallie Durand were doing a book signing of CATCH THAT COOKIE!) about GNs. Great day for me AND if you haven’t read STITCHES, it’s a must read! It’s actually a memoir. Amazing work!
