Word Nerds: It’s About Time

I’m almost adjusted to the annual switcheroo, although that shock and surprise of darkness descending at 4:30 pm and waking up at 6 am and thinking it must be the middle of the night because it is so depressingly dark never has become something I’ve grown used to over my lifetime of turning the clocks back one hour in the fall.
Whew-a paragraph of quiet rant. Thank you for allowing that. I do feel better.
With time on my mind, I thought I would dedicate this month’s Word Nerd post to words that reflect time. Ready?

How are you coping with the time change. You are excused if you are from Hawaii or Arizona.

The time change never seems to bother me the way it does many people. My wife hates it and she complains about it if the clock moves forward or behind.
My hubs is like you—time change is not a problem. But me? I grouse every year. I’m not willing to move to Hawaii or Arizona though.
My wife and I went to Anchorage once. It was near the end of June. When we got to our hotel, it was almost 11:00 p.m. and still light out. Such a bizarre feeling.
I abhor the time change. With every fiber of my being. That said, did you know that “time” is the most used noun in the English language?
Ooh, a Word Nerd fact to ponder. Thanks, Jilanne, and I’m hoping the powers that be will figure out only one time is needed (because isn’t there enough stress to deal with?)🕰️
Whew, that’s quite a list. I lived at the western end of the time zone and then moved to the eastern end. What a shock that it’s dark at 4:30, and dark when I get up in the morning. Like you, I still haven’t gotten used to it. It’s been 40 years. Sigh!
I think it must have been November when Paul Simon wrote the line “Hello, Darkness, my old friend/I’ve come to talk with you again.”
I think you are right!
I love it. I wish it were always so.
